MGB dumps 51 mine applications in Central Mindanao

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Central Mindanao has rejected fifty-one mining applications out of a total of 69, most of them Manila-based,  filed with the office..
This is in line with the government’s “use it or lose it” policy to revive the mining industry, said MGB regional director Constancio Paye Jr.
The remaining 18 applications have been forwarded to our main office for possible approval, he said.
According to Paje, the applications were rejected for failure by applicants to submit the necessary requirements, mainly the FPIC [Free and Prior Informed Consent] from the tribal communities.
An FPIC is the indigenous peoples’ consent for companies to operate in their ancestral lands.
These companies have land applications ranging from 637 to 16,535 hectares in the different parts of Central Mindanao, covering the provinces of South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.
