BONG GO URGES HOUSE-TO-HOUSE VACCINATION FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

Leave no one behind

Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go has reiterated his appeal to the national government and local government units to intensify the rollout of vaccines for eligible members of the vaccine priority list, particularly unvaccinated senior citizens.

Go urged LGUs to consider intensifying their house-to-house operations to vaccinate priority groups, particularly senior citizens who have difficulties going outside their homes.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Yadav, World Health Organization representative in the Philippines, recently voiced concern that more than 2.5 million senior citizens had yet to receive a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

“Vaccinating these older people is one of the effective ways to save lives during this pandemic,” he said.

Yadav then appealed to LGUs to get their constituents to obtain their vaccinations, particularly elderly and those with co-morbidities.

Go, for his part, then continued to remind the public not to fear the vaccines but the virus itself, and that it is the only way to protect themselves, their families, and communities from COVID-19.

1. If you are 65-85 years old, you should understand: You are no longer a superman. Don’t be exhausted all day, you should live calmly. For example, rice should be eaten one bite at a time, and things should be done bit by bit. It’s not enough to be calm, and you should show yourself when appropriate and let the ordinary days shine.

2. If you are 65-85 years old, you should understand: The quality of life depends entirely on your mentality. Every day, sea cucumber, abalone, big fish, big meat, delicacies from mountains and seas, a five-star high-end restaurant, are not necessarily high quality life. Only getting spiritual satisfaction is quality life.

FEATURE: FULLY-VACCINATED VS. COVID

For 104-year-old Lualhati Masanga, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 means something more than being protected from severe illness.

It has brought her closer to doing what she values most — finally spending time again with her family.

Lualhati is one of around 45,000 senior citizens living in Pasig City, which is the first Local Government Unit (LGU) to inoculate all of its elderly with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

By mid-August, nearly 100% in Pasig City have been fully vaccinated.

“When we see that more than 70% of those who passed away from COVID-19 are senior citizens, it only makes sense that we protect them first. And the best way to protect them is through vaccination,” said Mayor Vico Sotto.
