November 2, 2012 by mindanaonow GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — The provincial government of South Cotabato is no longer pursuing a review of the environmental impact study (EIS) of foreign-backed Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) after the German team it earlier tapped for its expertise has reportedly backed out. South Cotabato Gov. 500,000 hectares targeted in govt greening program for 2012-2016

BALANZA    The Phiippine government National Greening Program (NGP) is targeting about 500,000 hectares for tree planting in the period 2012 to 2016, said Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio. The DENR projects the Philippines to have more green forest areas than deforested ones if the government meets its 2016 National Greening Program (NGP) goal of planting some 1.5 billion tree seedlings in about 1.5 million hectares of open, denuded and degraded forest land nationwide.
