Malaybalay City BIR on overtime to meet tax goal

MALAYBALAY City – As the deadline gets nearer for filing of annual income tax return on April 15 this year, the Bureau of Internal Revenue –District Office No. 99 is leaving to stone unturned in pushing strategies to meet the target goal collection set by BIR central office.

‘’Oplan Bayad Buwis,’’ the frontline tax campaign pitch of the bureau is in full stream with the series of schedules and venues around the province since April 2, said revenue district officer Myrna L. Bernardo.

Bukidnon BIR official has legacy to beat

MALAYBALAY City, Bukidnon – The newly-assumed Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Officer (RDO) here on her first day in office literally hit the ground running—a mantra first dished out by President Noynoy Aquino when she assumed office—whipping up personnel with her encouragement to do their best not for her own but to preserve the consistently excellent performance of RDO No. 99.

RDO Myrna Bernardo is in a quandary: her predecessor RDO Samer Muti—transferred to RDO No. 103 in Butuan City, Caraga Region—as she herself admits, is leaving a record of top performance that may be hard to beat.

Bernardo, who took her new post effective on January 3, 2011 after her stint in RDO 109 in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat, (previously, she had been RDO in the cities of General Santos, Marvel and Digos) was all praise for her predecessor during the turnover ceremony.

“I ask your full cooperation as we continue in achieving our goal,” she told the BIR employees, adding “ RDO Muti planted good seeds in the bureau which we should nurture.”

Muti, who held the post for 4 years, 10 months and 10 days, relinquished his seat with the hope that Bernardo would pursue tax programs that achieved high performance levels carried out through diplomacy with tax payers and a bureaucracy responding with the same level of relationship with them.

In her speech at the turnover, Bernardo vowed to continue RDO Muti’s mission and assured employees camaraderie would prevail in the office.

Responding, employees welcomed her with pride that Bernardo “ as a most travel revenue officer,” and that her strong leadership and a motivator, generous heart and fair dealings would lead to a responsive BIR office.

Bernardo said RDO Muti would be an inspiration when she pursues their mutual objective: Intensify campaign for prompt tax payment and encourage delinquent tax payers.

Indeed, RDO Bernardo has a challenge to meet.

RDO Muti’s record, achieved with the full support of  Assistant Revenue District Officer (ARDO) Mike Sanggacala, is a legacy that she has to equal if not surpass.

Based on the cumulative comparative report, BIR Bukidnon surpassed their 2010 annual goal target of P662, 229.000, with actual collection of P770,007.69  as of December 17, 2010, or an excess over goal of P23,541.007.

The district‘s effective collection strategies placed Bukidnon revenue tax performance on the top of the list BIR Region 16.
