RAPPLER: Twitter suspends over 300 accounts in Marcos network

MANILA, Philippines – Twitter has suspended more than 300 accounts from the supporter base of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for violating the company’s platform manipulation and spam policy.

In an email, Twitter said they had reviewed the hashtags and accounts mentioned in a Rappler investigation, which found an emerging Marcos network composed mainly of newly-created and revived Twitter accounts. A recent Digital Public Pulse study also found that his supporter base, which became a distinct group from August to October 2021, was “virtually absent” from May to July of the same year. READ MORE

MANILA, Philippines – After taking over major social media platforms for their propaganda work the past years, the supporter base of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is looking to dominate Twitter as well with the use of mainly newly-created and revived accounts, a Rappler investigation showed.

The hashtag #LabanMarcos trended on Twitter on Monday, January 17, ahead of the announcement by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on petitions against Marcos’ candidacy.

Marcos’ supporters had organized a Twitter party the night before on Sunday, January 16, to make #LabanMarcos trend. One of the accounts known to have started the event was Twitter account @UTLoyalist, created only in November 2021. READ MORE in Rappler

LORENZANA SHOOTS DOWN martial law, total lockdown rumors

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Thursday denied claims made by a voice recording being spread on social media that the government would impose martial law by January 10 to stop the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the country.

“Not true. Fake news. Definitely, out of the picture,” he said in a message to reporters.

In the voice recording, a woman is urging the public to stock up on food good for until January 30 on the possibility that President Rodrigo Duterte will declare martial law or total lockdown by next week.

In the scenario, no one will be allowed to go out, hence the need to stock up on supplies, the woman claimed.

“There is no compelling reason to declare martial law,” Lorenzana said in a report in the government news agency PNA .

BONG GO WARNS against fake news vs. Duterte admin

“While the Duterte administration continues to fulfill its duty, others are wasting precious time and resources just to discredit the country’s Covid-19 response efforts and push for their own ambitions,” Senator Bong Go dished out this verbal missile as he warned against  fake news and disinformation peddled by some politicians.

Without naming names, Go said these politicians are  “wishing to take advantage of our vulnerabilities and divide us just to push their twisted narratives, political agendas and vested interests.”

“The Filipino people are sick and tired of it,” Go said in his weekly column “GOing Forward,” on Sunday.

“While the Duterte administration continues to fulfill its duty, others are wasting precious time and resources just to discredit the country’s Covid-19 response efforts and push for their own ambitions,” he said.

Go vented his emotion at the unnamed politicians as the Senate investigates alleged anomalies in the government’s handling of the mutli-billion peso Covid-19 pandemic response fund.

“President Duterte and I have already said that if any allegation of corruption against us is proven, we will resign. What more do they want?” Go asked.

“I assure you that no amount of black propaganda will derail us from our mission to serve,” he stressed.

That is why we continue to fight the good fight, anchored on the principle of our leader, President Duterte, to always prioritize the interests of those who are hopeless, helpless and in need, in order to ensure that no Filipino is left behind,” Go said.
