The issue of alleged drug addiction of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has resurfaced as a hot item in media interviews as the former senator hit the campaign trail in the race to Malacanang in the 2022 May elections.
The alleged addiction to high-end drug cocaine of the son of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was first dished out by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte, whose 6-year term was highlighted by a vicious war against drugs that left a bloody trail of thousands of dead casualties, mostly from the poor sector.

“Hindi ako puwede sa ganyan.(That is a no for me)”, Bongbong said when asked if he has ever used drugs even in his youth, during an interview with DZRH radio onMonday, January 24.
Drug addition is only for the jobless and those with nothing to do, he said.“Masyado akong maraming ginagawa, the lifestyle – that kind of lifestyle, para sa mga walang ginagawa, sa walang trabaho.”
If he is elected president, Bongbong said he would not take a violent route in his war against illegal drugs. Critics say Duterte’s bloody drug war targeted small-time drug users and has killed over 30,000 Filipinos, mostly poor.
On Tuesday, January 25, in a separate interview, Bongbong told entertainment host Boy Abunda that his war on drugs would focus on a strategy where rehabilitation is given premium and “addicts are treated like patients in need of a cure.”
Bongbong said his drug war would hunt down big-time dealers, and not the poor into drug use, adding that drug use “only becomes a crime when you’re involved in the sale.”
