The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) recently confirmed that it sent a notice to the Marcoses to settle its outstanding estate tax liabilities to the government.

The estate tax initially estimated at P23 billion in a 1997 court decision has reportedly risen to P203 billion including interests.

The estate tax case has yet to be decided since it remains pending in court, said Vic Rodriguez, spokesperson of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,

Rodriguez said the tax issue raised against the former senator was “all about politics.”

“Our rivals are misdirecting everyone by claiming that the case has attained finality when the truth of the matter is, it is still pending in court and the ownership of the properties in litigation has yet to be settled,” he said in a statement.
