Pinoys will not get a chunk off the alleged thousands of tons of Marcos gold bars that propagandists of former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said would be distributed to his supporters if he wins the presidency in the May 2022 elections.
“Walang ginto, walang ginto (No gold, no gold),” said the son of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in Super Radyo dzBB’s “Ikaw Na Ba? The Presidential Interviews” onFebrury 5.
Two urban legends point to how the late dictator amassed his gold haul: metric tons of gold of the pre-colonial Tallano “royal family, allegedly passed on to their lawyer, the elder Marcos; and gold bars from hunting for Yamashita Treasurehastily buried in the country by Japanese Imperail forces during their retreat in World War II.
Marcos propagandists say if he wins, Marcos Jr. will use the gold to pay off the country’s debts and make the Philippines one of the richest in the world.
