
Two groups and consumers of North Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO) held a peace rally inTagum City on Friday, January 14, to express strong opposition to a take over of the electric cooperative by power giant Aboitiz-owned Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC).

The Coalition Against Privatization of Electric Cooperatives (CAPECs) and the National Center of Electric Cooperative Consumers (NCECCO) Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro Chapter, Inc. provided muscles to a call by some 94,000 consumers of Nordeco against House Bill 10554, which expands the franchise of DLPC to the Cities of Samal and Tagum, and the Municipalities of Talaingod, Asuncion, Kapalong, San Isidro, New Corella, Davao del Norte, and the Municipality of Maco, Davao de Oro which are all in the franchise Nordeco.
CAPECs and NCECCO have petitioned legislators to junk the ill that has already been passed on second reading by the House of Representatives.
