Audit agency only doing its job
After President Rodrigo Duterte told government agencies to ignore reports by the Commission on Audit (COA) showing deficiencies in the handling of the multi-billion-peso Covid-19 response fund, Vice President Leni Robredo said Friday that government agencies should respond to COA and not ignore the audit agency’s reports.
“Hindi natin dapat minamasama ‘yung mga reports na ‘to. In fact, binibigyan pa nga tayo ng opportunity na sumagot, na magpaliwanag, na maging mas transparent sa systems and processes natin,” Robredo said in a video message, as the COA bared annual audit reports on the Covid-19 funds that indicated alleged anomalies in disbursements by various government agencies.
Earlier, Duterte and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III lambasted COA for finding “deficiencies” in the Department of Health’s spending of P67.32 billion in funds allocated for its COVID-19 response.
Duterte also urged COA to stop publishing its audit reports and called on government agencies to ignore them.
Defending the audit agency, Robredo said COA is just doing its job and that to avoid trouble with the COA, government agencies must in turn do their job of ensuring that their resources are being used correctly.
