PDP-LABAN doubts Inday Sara running for President in 2022

The president of President Rodrigo Duterte’s political party has bad news for fans and supporters of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

The presidential daughter, a top runner in surveys for presidential preference, may not be running for the top post to be vacated by her father in 2022.“

“I think Sara will not run, ” said Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino- Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) . ‘That’s my own analysis. But I cannot speak for her, it’s only hypothetical.”

Cusi expressed his assessment. in an interview with The Tribune, over an emerging possibility that if Sara Duterte runs, she could clash in the presidential derby with Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

As Sara puts off announcing her 2022, despite her high survey rating and amid “Run, Sara, Run” movements sprouting all over the country, PDP-Laban is cooking up a presidential run for Bong Go with President Duterte as his running mate.

The Go-Duterte tandem, however, is still to be endorsed by the ruling party in a forthcoming national convention.

Sara Duterte, founder and chair of the Daao Region-based regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP), had earlier said he would not join PDP-Laban if she decides to run. PDP-Laban also forbids support for a presidential candidate not belonging to the party.

Cusi said Go and Sara would be committing political suicide if they collide in the presidential contest in the May 3033 elections.

The collission, according to Cusi, would benefit the opposition.

“Senator Go and Mayor Sara have the same basket of supporters. If the two run, they would certainly divide the votes, especially in Mindanao,” Cusi told The Tribune, interview on Friday, August 13.
