DELTA VARIANT now in 9 out of 17 regions in the Philippines

Mothers carrying their infants line up in front of a public clinic for their child’s regular vaccination on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Batasan Road in Quezon City.

Nine of the 17 regions in the country already have cases of the deadlier and more infectious Covid-19 Delta variant, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Friday, August 6, as the health agency revealed that there are now 331 known cases of the highly transmissible coronavirus variant.

But there is something that should scare Pinoys more: Concerns that the actual number may be far higher, as the Philippine Genome Center is only sequencing a small percentage of the positive cases.

DOH also said that the Delta variant is now present in all 16 cities of Metro Manila and its lone municipality of Pateros.

Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) is composed of 17 local government units (LGUs), including the capital Manila.

The region has been placed by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Covid-19 underthe enhanced community quarantine starting Friday until August 20.
