The municipal government of Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte, headed by Mayor Ernesto Evangelista has turned over on Thursday a hauling truck to a local farmers’ cooperative here in response to the appeal of rice farmers for help in bringing their harvest to markets.
“Isip supporta sa kooperatiba sa mag-uuma naa kita’y gi turn-over na hauling truck sa Magsasakang Progresibo Marketing Cooperative (MPMC). Kini pinaagi sa pagsungkit nato og assistance gikan sa Department of Agriculture. Nalipay kita kay nahatagan og pagtagad ang atong hangyo na mahatagan ang Santo Tomas og usa ka hauling truck,” Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said.
Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña commended the efforts and contributions of the Tomasino farmer cooperatives in the agriculture sector despite the many challenges this year. Lapiña said that MPMC has been consistent in sustaining the needs of the Tomasinos during the pandemic.
According to Mayor Evangelista, the hauling truck is expected to ensure the steady flow of food products to the markets, as he took action on the issues and concerns raised by the farmers’ cooperative on the transport of agricultural products from production areas to markets.
In line with his administration’s “Aksyon Sa Agrikultura” program, Evangelista said DA’s hauling truck is under the Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita “KADIWA on wheels” program of the Department of Agriculture which aims to deliver the farmers’ produce to a certain area wherein they can dispose their products.
The Foton Hauling Truck worth Php 3,000,000 was turned-over to the Magsasakang Progresibo Marketing Cooperative (MPMC) at the MunicipalCovered Court on Thursday, July 22, 2021 led by Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, DA’s Melinda Rubellano representing DA XI Regional Director Ricardo Onate Jr. MAGRO head Engr. Elmer Degorio, among others.
The acquisition of the hauling truck was made possible through the initiative of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist’s headed by Engr. Elmer Degorio spearheaded the Department of Agriculture’s KADIWA on Wheels program in the municipality, where consumers may avail of fresh vegetables and other food products.
Meanwhile, Director Dolores G. Lazarus, MPMC Chairperson, thanked the Santo Tomas LGU for assisting the farmers’ cooperative that became a recipient of the said hauling truck.
“Salamat sa kang Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, sa MAGRO sa pagpaningkamot na makakuha kita og hauling truck kay dako kini na tabang sa mga farmer-members sa amoang kooperatiba,” Lazarus said. Help farmers transport goods.
“We commend the efforts and the hard work sa mga lideres ug miyembro ng MPMC labi na sa ilang dakong papel sa agriculture sector dinhi sa atong lungsod. Dako ang role sa farmers’ cooperative labi na didto sa pag-ensure na naa kitay makaon,” Lapiña said at the turnover ceremony.
Lapiña has expressed hope that the truck would be used so that it could increase the cooperative’s income.
The truck was funded under the enhanced KADIWA Inclusive Food Supply Chain Program that aims to support farmers and fisherfolk cooperatives or associations (FCAs) by giving financial support to operate and participate in KADIWA retail modalities continuously.
