Slaughtering animals through the Dhabiha Halal procedure is a unique part of the course on Butchery/Meat Cutting offered by the municipality of Sto. Tomas in Davao del Norte in a skills training program in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) .
The Dhabiha Halal procedure is the Islamic form of slaughtering animals or poultry. Halal food butchers are in demand abroad especially in Muslim countries.
Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña said the skills training program is part of the effort of the administration of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista to push the implementation of livelihood projects and programs to boost economic growth and provide employment here and abroad to many Tomasinos who have been rendered jobless amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Joy Gonzaga, head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), said the short term course is intended for the acquisition of skills and training on how to expertly perform Butchery/Meat Cutting of livestock for food.
TESDA conducted orientation on Slaughter Operation Virtual Orientation last July 15, 2021 at Municipal Covered Court, Santo Tomas Davao del Norte. the first batch of 20 beneficiaries of the program.
“Naningkamot kita na makahatag og training sa katong gusto mugawas abroad. Mapasalamaton ang Santo Tomas LGU sa TESDA kay natuman ang atong gipangayo na training para sa mga Tomasinong gusto mahimong OFW. Kining butchery training mao kini ang first batch na gihatag na slot sa TESDA og kina himuon by batches para ang tanan naay equal opportunity na maapil sa training,” Evangelista said.
