After the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that there is now local transmission of the deadly Delta variant, President Rodrigo Duterte is looking at the possibility of closing the country’s borders .
With the looming threat of the highly-contagious Covid-19 variant, Duterte said that he would convene the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and medical experts on Saturday in Malacañang to discuss the move seen as aiming to shut out more carriers of the variant from entering the country.
On Friday, the Philippines imposed travel restrictions in Thailand and Malaysia over the threat of the Delta variant.
Prior to the new policy, foreign travelers from Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates were barred from entering the Philippines.
