The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan ( PDP-Laban) on Monday , May 31, adopted a resolution urging President Rodrigo Duterte’s to run for vice president in the 2022 elections.
The resolution was adopted during a National Council Assembly held in Cebu City.
The resolution also allowed Duterte, PDP-Laban chairman, to choose his candidate for president.
Energy Secretary and PDP-Laban vice chairperson Alfonso Cusi, who was ordered by Duterte to convene the assembly, signed the resolution .
The signing by Cusi of the “Resolution to convince the party chairman President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to run for vice president in the 2022 national elections and for President Duterte to choose his running mate for president in the 2022 national elections, ” was loudly applauded by the assembly.
A party stalwart said there is nothing wrong if Duterte picks a running mate who is not a member of the party.
PDP-Laban, the party leader who asked anonymity said, would agree if Duterte would choose presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, as running mate.
PDP-Laban has an alliance with Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP), the Davao Region-based regional political party Mayor Sara organized for the 2019 elections, during which the HNP established a nationwide network of alliances with several national parties and local and regional political blocs.
