Opposition should have only one candidate for president
By ROGER M. BALANZA
Vice President Leni Robredo said she is considering running for President in 2022 as an option but conceded one major factor that could send her bid to the garbage dump.
To beat the endorsed candidate of President Rodrigo Duterte whose term ends in 2022, the opposition must have a single presidential bet to be able to capture Malacanang.
“So, number one is really feasibility. I believe that there should be only one opposition candidate in the 2022 elections…. To have many different candidates running [in] the elections will only ensure…[the] victory of the same kind of governance that the last five years [have] given us. And I’m not sure it’s in the best interests of the country,” said Robredo.
Rappler.com reported on Robredo’s future political plan, bared by the vice president at an online forum organized by the United Kingdom-based Cambridge University Filipino Society.
The Vice President, chairman of the opposition Liberal Party, is one of several politicians considered to run for president that will be supported y the !Sambayan Coalition, thatplans to put up a single slate of national candidates who will go up against the Dcandidates of the uterte administration.
The Coalition, organized by former Supreme Court chief justice Antonio Carpio, is composed of political opposition parties and critics of Duterte.
