The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed that Andrea Rosal, daughter of the late Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, former spokesman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), was among those killed in an encounter between government troopers and communist rebels in Brooke’s Point, Palawan on September 3.
Ka Roger, was the leader of the Melito Glor Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the Southern Tagalog region and spokesperson of the CPP from 1994 until 2006. Ka Roger died in 2011 at 64, shortly after suffering a third heart attack.
Andrea Rosal, alias “Ka Naya,” is the coordinator of the NPA Palawan provincial party committee and deputy secretary of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC) which is based in Batangas.
3rd Marine Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Nestor Herico said that apart from Andrea Rosal, the other slain ranking insurgents were Bonifacio Magramo, also known as “Salvador Luminoso,”and Noel Siasico, alias “Ka Celso,” of the NPA’s front operational command.
A well-known militant activist in Mindoro, Ren “RJ” Manalo, alias “Ka Amir”, a Gabriela official who was in the company of the communist rebels, was also killed during the clash.
