MILITANTS SLAM ‘RED-TAGGING’ POSTER

A prelude to murder or harassment

Lumad rights defenders and activists are subject to another vilification poster in Davao City that appeared on August 13 that tagged them as “human rights violators” and “berdugo.”

Included in the list are Bishop Hamuel Tequis of United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) Haran who is blatantly called a Communist Party of the Philippines member; Dr. Jean Lindo, Gabriela-Southern Mindanao Chairperson; Meggie Nolasco, executive director of Salugpongan Ta Tanu Igkanogon Community Learning Center; Kharlo Manano, former Secretary General of the children’s rights group Salinlahi based in Manila; Carlo Olalo from the labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno Southern Mindanao Region; Tony Salubre and Marites Rafiola of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas-SMR; Jong Monzon, Secretary General of the Lumad alliance PASAKA and Jay Apiag, Karapatan-SMR Secretary-General.
This is the second of a series of posters that came out after the Anti-Terrorism Act has taken effect on July 22. Organizations tagged in this poster as well as other rights advocates lambast this propaganda as an attack on democracy and on persons defending peoples’ rights.
Dr. Jean Lindo, a community medicine practitioner has this reaction posted on her Facebook account: “This could be prelude to murder or to harassment suit if they are kinder and want to make me suffer through other means. I will still assert. But to those whom I care about I want you to know I do care about you enough to fight and resist.” KILAB MULTIMEDIA
