Philippine lawmakers on Friday, July 10, rejected the franchise application of ABS-CBN, the country’s largest media network.
The death sentence on the television giant was dealt by the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises which tackled the ABS-CBN application for a new 25-year franchise.
Eighty-five members of the committee – 46 regular members and 39 ex-officio members – cast the following votes: 70 to adopt the rejection, 11 to dismiss the rejection, 2 to inhibit, and 1 to abstain.
