BIG BUSES TO EDGE OUT PUJs FROM DAVAO CITY STREETS
The High Priority Bus System (HPBS) is long overdue and a much awaited development by urban commuters of Davao City, according to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairperson Martin Delgra.
Delgra said the HPBS is part of transport modernization, that includes phasing out PUJs, that everyone should be ready to embrace. HPBS has met strong opposition from public utility jeepneys (PUJs) drivers and operators.
Under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), launched in 2017 with the goal of making the country’s public transportation system efficient and environmentally friendly by 2020, PUJs aging 15 years and above will no longer be allowed to ply routes and will be totally out of the streets by June 30, 2020.
