Vice President Leni Robredo accepted President Rodrigo Duterte’s designation for her to be co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).
The Vice President welcomed Duterte’s offer in a press conference at the Quezon City Reception House on Wednesday, November 6.
Robredo’s acceptance came a day after her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez scoffed at the the vice president’s designation as ICAD co-chairperson. He said it was an “empty” post that would leave Robredo with no full control over the government’s overall anti-drug campaign.
Robredo is a long-time critic of Duterte’s war vs. illegal drugs. More than 5,000 drug personalities are said to have died in legitimate police operations, but human rights organizations estimate the total death toll at more than 27,000.
