SARA DUTERTE WARNS PRESIDENT AGAINST SUPREME COURT ASPIRANT
BY ROGER M. BALANZA
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has warned her father President Rodrigo Duterte against appointing an aspirant to a Supreme Court position who is using her name to get her attention and to shore up his application.
“It has come to my attention that certain individuals are talking to the petitioners and witnesses in the disbarment case filed against me, asking them to withdraw their complaint,” Duterte-Carpio said in a statement..
Duterte-Carpio is facing a disbarment case before the Supreme Court for mauling in 2011 court sheriff Abe Andres who refused to follow her plea to stay implementation of a demolition order against urban poor shanties on a privately-owned land in Agdao district in Davao City.
According to the Davao City Mayor, behind the move to have the case against her withdrawn is an aspirant who wanted to appear like he was helping her in her case.
This “individual who is seeking appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court… has been trying to spin my case to get a favorable ruling — hoping that I may take notice of him,” said Duterte-Carpio .
“This individual should take note that I do not have a hand in Supreme Court appointments. That is beyond my authority as Mayor of Davao City, ” she added.
Duterte-Carpio warned the President against the person she did not name.
“The Office of the President should think twice in appointing this individual to be a Justice — more so a Chief Justice. He clearly lacks the virtues of honor, justice, and fairness,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Duterte-Carpio also advised the public “not (to) believe individuals making representations on my behalf.”
“I have never asked any complainant or witness to withdraw their disbarment case against me as I have always maintained that I will face the consequences of my actions on that fateful day of July 1, 2011,” she said.
Duterte-Carpio’s manhandling of sheriff Andres was captured on video by a local television news crew and was aired on national television.
