Vice President Jejomar Binay is more than a hundred percent in support for boxing hero Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao whose senatorial bid in the May election is complicated by his coming April face-off with Timothy Bradley and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) saying coverage of the fight may give Oacquiao undue publicity in violation of election rules.
We are 110% in support of Pacquiao and we are confident that his lawyers are keenly studying the issue, said Rico Quicho, spokesman of Vice President Jejomar BInay, referring to the Comelec comment about Pacquiao possibly violating election laws.
Media coverage of the Pacquiao fight may be a violation of election rules as it is another way of promoting the boxer’s senatorial bid, Comelec Chairman Juan Andres Bautista said earlier.
Comelec has asked Pacquiao to comment on the issue about possible violation of election rules raised by former Akbayan party-list Rep. Walden Bello and former Sen. Rene Saguisag.
Quicho said UNA will not take advantage of the Pcquiao fight to gain publicity.
While praying that Pacquiao would win the fight, Quicho said he is not sure if Binay will be in Las Vegas to cheer Paquiao as the Vice President will be busy in the campaign trail.
What is clear is that we are fully supporting Pacquiao and we will help if he ask for our advice, said Quicho.
