Reluctant presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has not yet seen signs that the Almighty wants him to be President in 2016.
Duterte, who has barged into the top three in surveys for presidential preference, earlier said he was waiting for the “sign from God” before making an announcement whether to run or not.
The sign could come in his dreams but it was not God that has been visiting him, he said in the Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa television program on ABS/CBN on Sunday, May 24.
His dreams were not political, without God and were nocturnal visions of romance.
It’s girls. Full of them. Mga babaye, joked Duterte, 70, who is separated from wife, Elizabeth, and known to have a colorful love life. Even you is in my dreams, he told the giggling married lawyer-journalist Geraldine Tiu, his co-anchor in the program.
The program veered into Godly dreams as Tiu noted reports that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy talked in Hong Kong about his dream ten years ago where he had visions of Duterte in Malacanang as the sitting President. Quiboloy is vocal about his support for a Duterte presidency.
Duterte and Quiboloy were in Hong Kong over the week-end as the special guest in a religious gathering of the Jesus Christ The Name Above Every Name, the congregation of the Davao City-based international televangelist Quiboloy, who is a close friend and spiritual adviser of Duterte.
The gathering was attended by more than 5,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
In the ABS/CBN program, Duterte said that he would rather that he himself should dream of God pushing him to the presidency.
Nevertheless, for the nth time, Duterte—citing his age and funding woes and that he would get nothing beneficial from the top Malacanang post — said he was not running for president, not even if there is reincarnation. Reincarnation is a Hindu belief that after death the human soul returns to earth to take a new life form.
Asked by Tiu what he would like to be when he is reincarnated, Duterte said he would like to be a horse or a fish in the Pacific Ocean.
In the latter, Duterte could be meeting victims of his anti-crime campaign while on earth as mayor of Davao City.
Earlier asked what happened to criminals who were arrested by police and then went missing, Duterte responded in a mysterious, morbid tone: Fishes in the Pacific Ocean are happier and fatter because they have more to eat.
