Compostela Valley has created a special body that would map out strategies and programs for youth welfare, said Provincial Boaed member Tyron Uy.
Uy said the Provincial Local Youth Council (PLYC), created by Governor Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy through Executive Order (EO) 025-2013, would pursue programs for the youth left in the void by the defunct Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).
Uy, son of the governor and youngest member of the Provincial Board, said the main thrust of the PLYC is to promote youth welfare and to train the young on good governance.
The SK has been placed in limbo when the government mothballed the SK elections in 2013, leaving the youth sector without representation in local legislative bodies.
With the PLYC, the provincial government will continue to be active in the promotion of youth welfare and their participation in governance and social and economic development, said Uy, whose youth promotion drive is anchored on his project dubbed YES (Youth, Education, and Sports Advocacy).
Uy said the PLYC will link up with all youth groups in the province and carry the voice of the youth to the Provincial Board through recommendations that would promote the general welfare of the youth sector.
The members of the PLYC are the presidents of the CVSP Provincial Scholars, IP Youth Federation, PAG-ASA Youth Association, Youth for Peace Movement Federation, Diocesan Youth Apostolate Federation, Young Farmers (4H Club) Federation, Student Gov’t Councils in the Tertiary Level, Supreme Student Government (SSG) in Secondary and Technical Vocational Education.
Provincial Youth Coordinator Preciosa Toledo said officers and members of the PLYC took office during an Organizational Meeting held on July 11.
They are John Lerry A. Misa (CVSP), Chairperson; Vice Chair Imee Kassandra Cacho-SSG; Secretary Pablito Quidato Jr.-IP; Members: Jahar Sequina-Muslim, Ramel Luzon, Noemi Minguito-4H, Shadrach Lindong-SSC, Shelou Broñola-DYA, and Esmeraldo Hadcan– III (PYAP). (gilbert m. cabahug, ids-comval)
