Apo Team champion in Tesoro basketball tourney

The Roman Tesoro Apo team turned back Tesoro Printing Press All-Employee’s basketball tournament reigning champion, Rotsi Plant II, 110 – 97, in an exhibition game at the Tesoro Basketball Court on Friday night, May 2.

Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go sizzled with 55 points, shooting thirteen triples, to lead the grandsons of Roman Tesoro who held off an emphatic Rotsi Plant comeback try in the pay off period to seal the win.

The Roman Tesoro Apo team went into scoring blitz in the second period behind Go, whose mother is a Tesoro, who made 32 of his total 42 first half points, to take a 73 – 41 advantage entering the third period.

But the Rotsi Plant squad under chief tactician Linda Tesoro didn’t just roll and lie ahead for a crushing defeat as Manlatican and Mañacap spearheaded an 18 – 0 blast in the final canto to cut the deficit to a single digit, 97 – 88.

Kim Tesoro made six of his 21 baskets in the midst of fear-provoking Rotsi Plant assault in the pay off period and Go scored in the crucial spell as Roman Tesoro Apo team hanged on to win the match.

Mark Tesoro had 8 points for the Popoy Madrazo-mentored Roman Tesoro Apo team which also drew nine baskets from Dr. Anthony Tesoro.

Manlatican, who engaged Go in a duel in the high-scoring first half, finished the game with 41. 

Mojillo and Dayag had 14 each for the Luz Carr-managed Rotsi Plant II team which limited Roman Tesoro Apo team to just 10 points in the fourth period.

      Both teams traded baskets in the early going of the match that visibly sizing up each other’s strong suits.

      Roman Tesoro Apo team wrapped up the opening period with 26 – 19 lead.
