The city needs more parks for its growing population and these need would be incorporated in the revisions of the present zoning ordinance.
Davao City 3rd District Councilor Arnulfo Cabling said the ideal ratio would be 10 square meter of parks per person. He said that at the present Davao City there are not enough parks for its 1.4 million people.
Cabling said that the ongoing discussions on the revisions of the Comprehensive Development Plan and the corresponding zoning ordinance would incorporate the need to identify zones for parks and recreations.
Davao City has about 16 parks and six landmarks as green spaces, among the major public parks and greeneries include the People’s Park, Magsaysay Park, Rizal Park, Osmena Park, Quezon Park, Millenium Park, Clifford Park, Centennial Park, The Buhangin Flyover Greenery and the Dacudao Avenue Greenbelt.
Cabling said that as per discussions in the City Council Committees there is a proposal to zone more areas as parks and recreation areas.
One of these sites eyed for a park zone is the Shrine Hills where concerns have been raised on the slope’s stability.
