    AGUSAN DEL SUR — Agusan del Sur is among the top performing cities and provinces in the implementation of health programs, the Department of Health (DOH) said during the DOH forum in Davao City last August 15.
    Agusan del Sur topped 10 other contenders in providing immunization to children under its maternal and child health program, a report by Provincial Health Officer Joel Esparagoza said.
    It also ranked third in contraceptive prevalence rate under reproductive health program and is among the top rank provinces in the implementation of out-patient benefit package under PhilHealth Insurance Program. PIA

Red Cross BODs

BUTUAN CITY — Newly elected members of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Agusan del Norte-Butuan City Chapter were sworn into office during the induction ceremony held recently in one of the local resorts here. They were inducted by Agusan del Norte Governor Erlpe John Amante, honorary chairman of the board, who was represented by Board Member Victor Joseph Tomaneng. The newly inducted officers are as follows: Chairman, City Prosecutor Felixberto Guiritan; Vice Chairman, Dir. Mercedes Atupan; Secretary, Dir. Joanna Cuenca; Assistant Secretary, Dir. Josephine Salise; Treasurer, Dir. Titus Thaddeus Vesagas; Assistant Treasurer, Dir. Anselma Labicane; Auditor, Dir. Crispin Young; PIO, Dir. Abner Caga; and Counselor, Dir. Leodegaria Go.  Zero Waste

    BUTUAN CITY — The city government here will spearhead the Clean Ground, Zero Waste (CGZW) 1st Movement Anniversary on September 11, aimed to enjoin the community to actively participate in the implementation of garbage segregation as part of the solid waste management program of the present administration. Following the meeting conducted recently, the CGZW committee has lined-up activities of the celebration highlighted by an awarding ceremony to 8,166 household as recipients of clean household certificate from the different barangays of this city. Security guard killed

    SURIGAO CITY — A security guard was shot and killed when he tried to resist and fight off a group of armed men who robbed a jewelry and pawnshop store in Surigao City morning of Sept. 8.The Surigao City police identified the victim as Eleazar E. Dela Torre, 43, security guard of Parinas Pawnshop and Jewelry Store located at Kaimo St., a busy commercial area here. Investigation showed that the robbers swooped down on the jewelry store as it opened at 8 a.m., shot and killed the security guard who tried to resist them, took a still undetermined amount of jewelry and other valuable items before fleeing aboard a motorcycle bearing plate number KL 5249(PNA)

Rebs burn P20-M equipment

    SURIGAO DEL SUR — On the night of Sept 4, 100 unidentified fully armed men wearing military uniform (camouflage) burned heavy equipment of the Concepcion Basic Builders Inc (CBBI), damaging a crane; a welding machine; a generator; one concrete vibrator; one back hoe; one pay loader; one boom truck; two dump trucks, and one unit chainsaw with an estimated value to P20 million, reported the Philippine National Police.
    The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) here chaired by Gov. Johnny Pimentel immediately created a fact-finding committee to look into the latest atrocity. The committee is made up of people from the Department of Local Government, National Police, the 36IB Phil Army, the Department of Public Works and the Philippine Information Agency.
