The Beta Sigma Fraternity, known as the Brotherhood of Scholars celebrated its 66th Founding Anniversary worldwide last July 14, 2012 with the launching of the National Tree Growing Project (NTGP). The said program is a nationally-coordinated activity of the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association – National Assembly called as “Alay ng Kapatiran sa Inang Kalikasan”. The said event is in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) headed by no less than Hon. Brod. Sec. Ramon Paje and the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the leadership of Hon. Brod Sec. Proceso Alcala, in support of the National Greening Program(NGP).

The NGP of the government is anchored on Executive Order No. 26 series of 2011 which specifically states that all partners and stakeholders shall plant some 1.5 Billion trees covering about 1.5 Million hectares for a period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016, in the following lands of the public domain: forestlands, mangrove and protected areas, ancestral domains, civil and military reservations, urban areas under the greening plan of the LGUs, inactive and abandoned mine sites; and 0ther suitable lands.

It also states that, “All other greening efforts of the private sector and civil society shall be harmonized under the NGP. “
As such, the Beta Sigma Fraternity-Davao Regional Assembly, together with its sister-counterparts from the Sigma Beta Sorority took the lead in inviting partners for a tree-planting activity at the Davao International Airport Complex. Among the participants to the said “greening” activity included the Local Government Unit of Davao City, the Philippine National Police and Kiwanis International.
Davao Regional Assembly President Richard Aristotle Baban V, led the Brothers in welcoming all the participants to the NTGP which kicked-off at 6:30 in the morning of July 14. More than thirty (30) members of Kiwanis International headed by Madam Gloria L. Rollon took part in this noble endeavour. Similarly, the Philippine National Police led by Senior Inspector Brod. Nelson Ehilla and Senior Supt. Brod. Col. Camilo Cascolan came in full force and assisted the Fraternity in planting more than 250 seedlings. Said seedlings were provided by the DENR under the able leadership of Brod. Regional Director Jim Sampulna.
The Sigma Beta Sorority under the stewardship of Sisses PNP Major Aibie Bernasor and Celeste del Rosario provided most of the logistics. Also present were Brods from the Davao Medical School Foundation and the University of Mindanao campuses.
