The provincial government has thrown its supports to the “Luntiang Lunes” campaign, the Meatless Monday Movement
launched by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Balik Scientist Awardee Dr. Custer Deocaris, a Neuroscience and Bio-Gerontology Expert.
“Luntiang Lunes” or “Leafy Monday,” is the Philippine version of Meatless Mondays, an international campaign launched in 2003 by Johns Hopkins and Columbia University Schools of Public Health to mitigate the impact of global warming and address the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases.

Seeing its benefits to a healthier lifestyle, Governor Arturo T. Uy urged employees of the provincial government to embrace the meat-free diet during Mondays and eat more vegetables
instead. He also asked for the support of food suppliers in the employees’ Canteen to serve meatless meals every Monday. As emphasized in the campaign, to avoid eating meat just once a week is already a contributory factor towards promoting public and environmental health. ( ids-comval)
